North TAS Season 7 PR Reveal

Graphic again by the awesome UG | Jai2go (click the name for link)
Trucks made the rare decision this season to commit to a main, and it paid off in spades. His Pokemon Trainer, championed by his Charizard, was nearly a solo pick all season, dominating most tournaments and coming away with by far the most bracket wins.
Cohen made waves this season with his Mario alongside new picks like Shiek. Newly motivated by the BAM announcement, we expect Cohen to go far in the coming months.
Jai2go continued his well storied domination in the Launceston Smash scene this season with a solid 3rd placing, only dropping behind Cohen by a few games. Jai’s incredible consistency with his placings and matchups made him a threat to all players in the scene. His midseason move to the mainland has left a hole within the scene and he will be sorely missed.
Gerald makes a striking return with his new character, Sephiroth. As this new main developed, he experienced a weak start to the season, but finished strong with a win in the final week. With BAM on the horizon, he is warming up his trademark Chrom again, and we look forward to seeing the havoc this dual-character roster can wreak.
An exceptional season from our resident Bowser, barely missing out on the top 4 position this season. With fantastic placements and close sets all around with the best players, we can expect big things from her in the near future.
Mr President has landed in his all but reserved placing on the PR this season. The gatekeeper of the upper echelon of the Launceston Smash Scene, he has shown some strong performances this season and a late season switch to Pyra/Mythra will be very interesting to follow going into the next season!
LargeMarge has put up some solid performances during this season of the Smash in Launceston and their focus on shifting their mentality has really shown. Their consistent placings and matchups have made it hard to deny LargeMarge a spot on the PR as they are still a dominant force in the scene!
8. Sadlife
Sadlife breaks onto the top 8 this season, with his exceptional Ike making waves in the bracket. Despite some absences towards the end of the season, we are promised big things from his Pyra and Mythra, and look forward to his performance.

1. Ashley
Breaking into the Launceston Tekken scene this season, Ashley has quickly cemented his prowess and showcased he is the top dog. Sporting a wicked strong Bryan and showcasing a few strong secondaries he is yet to drop a set, even to the scenes strongest players. Ashley is the man to beat in the coming seasons!
2. Impulse
Despite a lack of attendance in the latter half of the season, Impulse had an incredibly strong start which solidified his second place in the PR. The Launceston Lars dominated the competition until a certain Bryan player stepped into the scene to rival him before his break. We hope to see Impulse making a return next season as some exciting Tekken action is sure to come!
3. Repeater
Despite dropping down the rankings this season it is not because of a lack of skill. Repeater continues to be a mainstay in the top echelon of Launceston’s Tekken talent. A consistent attendee of our tournaments and the one who has taken the most games off of our Rank #1 this season, Repeater will be missed greatly in Launceston impending his move interstate.
4. UG | Jai2go
Speaking of moving interstate, Jai2go left the Launceston scene midway through the season to relocate for university but had an incredibly strong performance while here to earn the 4th spot on the Rankings. Jai2go has shot up the rankings this season with some solid Heihachi play which made quick work of a majority of his opponents. Well done to Jai and we wish him the best in his future endeavours (and thank you for the PR art)!
5. Ren
This season Ren has committed to the Kunimitsu that has been so dangerous for her. She has brought some secondaries out but only rarely, slicing through her competition with her main. The contention between 4th and 5th places was incredibly close and even though Ren came away dropping down a place from last season, it should be noted that she is not any less of a threat!
6. DT | MaxKiNG
Our resident TO and Lucky Chloe enthusiast rounds out the Rankings as this seasons rock and gatekeeper. MaxKiNG has not outperformed his rank over the season but has continued to take the challenge to the rest of the rankings during their games and provide entertainment for our stream.
Well done to all our ranked players, thank you to all who’ve attended Tekken 7 tournaments in Launceston this season and hopefully we have just as much excitement next season!
Competitive Monthlies and Upcoming Changes
from the Down Tilt Team
Three months of the year down and moving into April already, the year has flown by and with it we are looking at implementing more of the changes from our survey. Here are a few updates of what attendees can expect to roll out and what we have planned for the future:
Monthlies Price Increase
Starting with the April monthly we will be increasing the buy in/pot amount to $10 following player feedback. The main goal of this is to separate monthlies from weeklies and have more on the line for the players.
Both Tekken 7 and Smash Ultimate will increase from $5 to $10 with venue fee staying the same at $5
Venue fee covers entrance into the side events we have on the day.
We hope that this will encourage more players to travel and add an air of higher stakes to what is our big tournament for the month to help with state rankings.
Tuesday Night Fights becomes Highway Havoc
We’ve been wanting a name change for a while and this month we will roll out the new name. Highway Havoc comes in line with Roadside Rumble to help the tournament stand out.
This also gives us freedom as following the survey we understand that 2, sometimes 3 nights to tournaments can be a bit much so if we need to move the day or time in the future we have some leverage.
For now though Highway Havoc will continue on Tuesday’s starting from the 13th of April.
Games List
With Guilty Gear Strive being delayed we have had to change our games list and do some moving around.
For now the games list moving forward will be
Power Rangers Battle for the Grid
DragonBall FighterZ
Street Fighter III: Third Strike
These will rotate every week eventually we will add Strive into the mix and as always depending on popularity we will make any necessary decisions.
If any new games come around we will make sure to try and get them into the list but for now the above games are our focus.
Hopefully that gives a little bit of insight on what to expect over the next couple of months, we will also be starting phase 2 of renovations and are looking forward to having an amazing venue for tournaments!
Thanks for reading!

North Tas Power Rankings - Season 6 (Oct - Dec 2020)
Panelists DT | MaxKiNG, UG | Jai2go, UG | Gerald, UG | Mr. President, UG | Wingy and DT | Trucks
“Another amazing PR piece by UG | Jai2go”
It’s that time again, after a crazy year let’s take time to celebrate those who played their hearts out and took home a spot on the North Tas Smash Ultimate Power Rankings for season six!
1. DT | Trucks (Lucina, Pokemon Trainer, Terry, Samus)
This season Trucks has reclaimed his number 1 spot on the power rankings after quite a time away from it. Trucks has historically been the man to beat in Launceston and has made it a point to be that again, and with lots of style! Along with his new Down Tilt sponsorship and a slew of characters under his belt, what will be able to stop him going into 2021?
2. UG | Jai2go (Wii Fit Trainer, Lucina)
Jai2go maintains his top 2 presence on the PR this season. His high attendance and incredible consistency have proven that he is a force to be reckoned with in the Launceston Smash Scene.
3. Gerald (Chrom)
This season, much like the last, Gerald has had scarce appearances at events but when he does show up he has shown he still has what it takes to win a tournament over Launceston’s best. Gerald has fantastic matchups and wins which have improved his rank from last season.
4. Cohen (Mario)
Despite dropping down the PR from 1st to 4th, Cohen is still an incredibly strong player in Launceston. Only his attendance and a few slightly losing matchups to other members of the top 4 have marred his appearance on this season's PR. After a much needed break it seems he is ready to take Launceston by storm in 2021!
5. Wingy (Bowser)
The only other player to win a tournament outside of the top 4, Wingy has secured the 5th place spot on the PR this season! Her ever scary Bowser has proven her to be a player to beat as she has a great spread of matchups and placings only topped off by her tournament win after double eliminating this season's number 1 player! 2021 is looking incredibly promising for Wingy!
6. Mr President (Daisy, Hero, Jigglypuff)
Mr President has shown this season that he can take it to the scenes best players. The only person outside of the top 4 to have a set win over Cohen, last seasons number 1 player, and has a fantastic record over his contenders on the PR. Next season Mr President is hoping to make an impact in the Launceston Smash Scene!
7. LargeMarge (Cloud)
Despite dropping down a couple of placings on the PR this season, LargeMarge has shown that they are still an incredibly consistent player in Launceston, able to maintain great placings and almost impeccable matchups against all the players ranked below them during the regular season. LargeMarge will definitely be looking to reclaim their spot on the PR at the very least, possibly even break their limits!
8. MaxKiNG (Palutena)
Our resident TO seems to be our resident Gatekeeper in Launceston. Reclaiming his 8th spot on the PR this season, he seems to be the man to beat if you want to be recognised among Launceston’s best. A return to more Palutena play has definitely seen a lot more close losses out of him this season against players that usually would have had his number.
Honourable Mentions
Gandlaf (Link, Roy)
Gandlaf has shown a lot of improvement this season and improved a few of his matchups from the last one. If this trend continues Gandlaf could secure himself a spot on the PR next season
Sadlife (Ike)
Sadlife is Launceston’s newest regular player and has already shown that he has the potential to take it to some of the scenes best. A lot of potential has been shown from him and lots of the scene are excited for him to improve and make his place among the PR players.

Tekken 7 Season 2 North Tas Power Rankings!
Panel includes DT | MaxKiNG, Repeater, Impulse, Ren and UG | Jai2go with Graphic by UG | Jai2go
It’s that time again, Down Tilt and Tuesday Night Fights present the Tekken 7 Season 2 Power Rankings. It’s always an exciting time to be announcing rankings so let’s meet the players who placed this season:
1. Impulse
Making his breakout this season, Impulse secures the #1 spot on the PR! Some very dominant tournament wins, and the Tekken devs giving Lars some love, have propelled him into the top spot. Having the most tournament wins and best head to head matchups, the only person close to challenging Impulse is our #2 this season.
2. Repeater
The ever solid rock of the Launceston Tekken scene, Repeater comes away with the #2 spot this season. He has dropped a couple of sets here and there to players other than the #1, but those times are very rare and usually when he is experimenting away from his main character Hwoarang. Repeater continues to be a dominant force this season with plenty of tournament wins under his belt as well.
3. UG | Gerald
Despite a dip in mid season attendance, Gerald’s dominant results have made it impossible to underestimate him. Great head to head results over the rest of the scene, bar the top 2, and fantastic placings at all his attended tournaments have shown that despite his brief hiatus Gerald has not lost his footing and has boxed out the competition to take the third place!
4. Ren
Maintaining her 4th spot on the rankings this season, Ren proves to be the gatekeeper to the upper echelon of the Launceston Tekken scene. A mid season switch to Kunimitsu has shown her skills of adapting and picking up new characters is as strong as ever. Ren adds this to her Zafina to make a combination of deadly characters.
5. Oridian
Oridian burst into the early part of the season with some great results and good matchups, but the gap has seemed to close between her and others on the rankings. Her lack of attendance during the mid and later parts of the season sees her drop down a few spots, but that does not mean she is less of a force to be reckoned with!
6. DT | MaxKiNG
Our resident TO retains his 6th place this season. Some decent results and reasonably close head to heads with a large part of the rankings this season has helped him maintain this position. He seems just short of reaching higher on the PR, and will really need to step up his game to climb the rankings!
7. UG | Jai2go
Last season Honorable mention, but this season Jai2go makes his mark on the Launceston Tekken scene and breaks onto the PR. The strong Heihachi play from him has seen him take some of the higher ranked players to a lot of close games, and even taking sets off of players ranked above him. Jai2go can only climb higher from here!
8. George
Rounding out the Rankings at #8, George bursts onto the ladder this season with a couple of fantastic tournament runs, culminating in some 4th place finishes. She has shown she has the potential to hang with a large portion of the PR, and with some more work can definitely climb up the rankings for next season!
Down Tilt 2020 Summary and Future
from DT | MaxKiNG and the Down Tilt team
Well here it is, the end of the year is finally upon as and it’s time to look towards 2021. For the past few weeks we have been collecting data via surveys, chats and round tables to discuss the future of Down Tilt and how we can best help our fighting game community. In this post we are going to cover some of the key points that you, the community, have given us feedback on.
Note: All survey and face to face/Discord responses are anonymous and players will not be referenced in the summary below
“In the end we received close to 20 submissions on the survey, this paired with conversations face to face and via Discord has given us a ton of feedback to begin planning for 2021”
We are going to breakdown the responses and have some overall local responses from MaxKiNG and the team (DT) on the survey. They are broken down into: General, Pricing, Payouts, Tuesday Night Fights, Roadside Rumble, Monthlies and Stream. There is a bit to get through so let’s begin:
General
In this section we wanted to gauge frequency of attendance and what events people are coming to and why, as well as how is the overall organisational structure of Down Tilt. From the breakdown we concluded the following:
Roadside Rumble, of course, is a our largest event and the one people are most eager to participate in it.
Tuesday Night Fights, is also maintaining good numbers and there is an overlap of players which is great to see.
Monthlies have a low overlap rate, we know that not all the RR/TNF players come to monthlies.
Players also attended Smash Sessions, Sunday Sesh and Online Rumble. Due to the lower numbers and interest for now we will be putting Sunday Sesh, the only current event from those listed above, on hold as we look at other ways for the community to engage.
Players are extremely happy with TO’s, every score being on the higher end of the graph (see below). We always know there is room to improve but thank the community for putting faith in the DT team.
Overall it was great to know people are wanting to attend multiple events, the organisational side is well received and other comments are just as positive.
“Very good atmosphere, and a very tight knit community with its own feel.”
“Set ups are clean and TO is extremely organized on which set up is for which game.”
“Spare controllers are a blessing, and the TO's actually feel like parts of the community, rather than just "the organisers"“
“We thank you for your kind words and support”
Pricing
Next up is cost and pricing, we have always tried to maintain the line of an affordable event for the player as well as one that can cover the cost of operation. In this section we go over a bit on the pricing and the changes we implemented in 2020.
The biggest change came near the end of the year with the addition of EFTPOS via Square. This has been a long requested addition and we were very excited once we got through all the hoops to sign it up. We have had a huge change from cash to card transactions with nearly 70% of all entry fees being paid on card.
Some of the feedback from players suggest actually paying more (mainly in the case of monthlies). Players have indicated that a higher prize pool gives games more stake and distinguishes them from regular weeklies. We can confirm we are looking at this and will probably be making a decision in the first quarter of the year.
“Higher stakes for higher competition?”
Prizing
Payouts and prizing is up next, since starting Roadside Rumble and our return from COVID-19 restrictions we have made changes in regards to prizing as it works around our numbers. From a statistical point of view since our return we averaged around 8 players a week now hitting around 10 and peaking at 13 so far.
The current payout system ($20 for 1st, $10 for 2nd and $5 for 3rd) was based on the average of 8 and whilst as discussed before with players, anything over is usually kept for upkeep costs such as power, rent, internet and water. Here is some of the feedback from the prizing question:
As you can see the survey shows that over half the survey responses are happy with the current payout structure whilst some are in the middle or opposed. Follow up conversations indicate roughly the same as the survey. One thing we did want to highlight on is the last response:
“Imo 3rd should at least get $10 because they will then get their entry back”
We wanted to highlight this one as we believe it’s important for transparency.
The operational cost of TNF/RR and all DT events is quite more than what all the events combined are making from venue fees, this paired with community requests (EFTPOS, more cams and new gear/games) it can make keeping on top of things costly for us here at Down Tilt.
Smash Attack does have a goal that includes maintaining a consistency with Down Tilt, but for now the decisions being made are purely to keep the doors open and make sure we can get what the community wants.
Now, we know its a lot of gibberish but we want to be transparent here, to organise just $5 for both TNF and RR would be around $40 a month loss on operational which means more out of pocket for organisers. We don’t want to charge more for venue fees but we also want to keep it as fair as possible for all.
Before we move on let’s just touch on the payouts:
Above you can see that majority of the community are happy for any of the payout options and a good quarter is happy to maintain cash. So moving forward we will continue to do cash payouts until we see such a change or large enough community request. Next, let’s breakdown the events:
Tuesday Night Fights
From here we will breaking down some of the communities feedback on tournaments, what games they want to see and more. Let’s begin:
Tekken 7 is here to stay, as the major draw and event that continues to pull in the most numbers we will be continuing with paid tournaments and rankings within Down Tilt.
Players are happy with the current structure of one paid tournament (Tekken 7) and one free (rotating). We did look in to possibly going back to three but with so much overlap in games and delays previously we will be benching this idea for now.
Now let’s breakdown the games:
Moving forward due to multiple issues ranging from YouTube/Twitch DMCA issues and lack of attendance. Blazblue Cross Tag Battle and Granblue Fantasy Versus will be going in to the vault. You may see them again in the future but for now we will be benching them from the rotating roster.
Dragonball FighterZ and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike were tied for highest votes for free tournaments so we will be keeping them in the rotation.
Other possibilities for rotation are Power Rangers; Battle for the Grid, Skullgirls and Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.
During January we will be running some taster nights for these games to see how people feel about these games. We will be running Tekken 7 and Street Fighter alongside so people can still play those.
We will also be moving tournament registration to Smash.GG, this means players will be able to pre-register for events moving forward. Payments will still be conducted onsite but we are looking at online payments.
And that about covers it, besides probably this. We some changes coming around February we will be renaming Tuesday Night Fights to Highway Havoc. This change represents a new era and year for what has been a great rise in other games amongst the local fighting game community.
Roadside Rumble
There is no doubt that Roadside Rumble is the event Down Tilt is known for, thanks to that hard work of all those involved from Down Tilt to Umami Gaming and the community it’s been awesome to see the community still thrive despite the year we have had. Like the Tuesday Night Fights breakdown, everything has been conciliated and we will go over the dot points:
One of the biggest requests was to bring an extra game or side event, following the survey both Smash Melee and Rivals of Aether came out the two clear winners. Starting with Roadside Rumbles return on the 7th of January, Melee will be an optional side event for those who have paid venue fee to attend.
Next up is one of the bigger discussions, Best of Five, earlier in the year and especially when we had low player numbers Bo5 was there to give players a bit more but as we are hitting double digits again a bit more regularly we have decided to make some changes. Moving forward Bo5 will be played from Top 6/Winners Semis, we will continue to monitor times for the event and make any changes necessary.
As with Tuesday Night Fights, from Friday’s (or as close as possible), events and pre-registration will go live on Smash.GG and social media to help engagement and inform people of events.
And that’s its really, overall event satisfaction seems in a really good spot and we are eager to roll out the changes starting at Roadside Rumble #33.
Monthlies
Overall monthlies feedback stayed relatively simple due to the lower feedback numbers and attendance from most. There are a few points to highlight again from previous conversations and things we have touched on before so we shall go over them quickly here:
Higher pot fee to inform of the difference from a weekly and a monthly ranking match. Keep payout structure but charge more for a higher/larger pot. As mentioned before we will monitor this and discuss a bit more before diving in on a change like this.
There is the avenue of having a couple of extra tournaments (similar to the recent boxing day event which ran 4 from 12pm - 5pm). Here are the results:
A Street Fighter 3: Third Strike paid tournament added to the roster of Smash and Tekken
Dragonball FighterZ, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle or Melee for a free side event.
Again we will confirm any changes for the new quarter and maybe run some trials as timing is a key issue for us as we want to accommodate those who travel.
Monthlies have had a huge boost since Tekken 7 had a bit of rise up North and the always hungry and eager South players keen to play. A huge shout out to those who do travel to our events and continue to support us.
and finally, Stream
This section was to gain some insights ranging from who watches, to why they watch and what they would like to see. We were happy to see the numbers that came across, community engagement and retention is always key and it’s great to see that even when not attending players were checking in from home.
The main things that we wanted to keep an eye out on though was content, why people watched, what they wanted to see and what could we do the stream to improve, let’s break it down:
One of the biggest requests is caster cams, this is something we are saving towards (see venue fees), are looking hopefully being able to roll out soon. We are happy with the technical aspect of the stream and will continue to find ways to improve it.
“Does the current layout include our Twitch names? A lot of our players have started streaming and I think it would be nice to have the extra bit of exposure”
Over the COVID period a lot of the scene started streaming and we agree it would be great to help out and get some exposure. We will be looking in to ways to get this information across to those watching both for those playing and casting, if possible.
As with any layout change, its a process, worked on very hard by UG | Jai2go (twitter here) who has to find the time to work on it.
Since implementing Streameta this year, we have seen a huge growth in process, performance and quality. We highly encourage those who run any form of tournament to utilise this amazing service.
And that’s about it really, wasn’t much to cover here. Again we fill we have done really well to nail down our stream and put a lot of work to make it very high quality as well as the VODS on YouTube.
And that covers it, we know it was a bit of a read but thank you for taking the time to read over. If you have anymore questions please join our Discord (here), follow us on Twitter (here) or use the Contact Us part of the site to touch base.
This year has been hard and we couldn’t have done it alone, so we want to take sometime to thank a few people:
UG | Jai2go
Jai’s amazing work from the stream layout to the weekly results has been an amazing asset to the community and we cant thank them enough for their work. If you want amazing PR work or just to work with someone who is passionate about fighting games please follow them on Twitter or check their streams here.
UG | Gerald
Another constant figure head in the community and overall great guy, we want to give Gerald a huge shout for their dedication. Having lost his way with Smash for a while Gerald still came to events to help cast. Casting is a long and hard task and not everyone can do it but Gerald would still come and put up his hand to hold down the fort which meant a lot to the team. Check him out on Twitter here.
Tournameta
The amazingly brilliant architect behind Streameta. Since implementing Streameta this year, as mentioned before, we have seen such a huge increase in quality and performance from our stream and its ease of use and set up has been amazing. Check them out here and check out Streameta here
Another Computer Store
Something awesome to come out of 2020 was the support of Another Computer Store here in Launceston. From offering PC repair services to organising equipment and helping us out we can’t thank them enough for their support and encouragement this year.
Launtel
Launtel have been great, from helping us get set up to the clear information they provide to help us troubleshoot any problem and the support they provide has been excellent. Alec and the team at Launtel have been nothing but amazing and we thank them for their service.
and of course, the Down Tilt community
We wouldn’t be here without you all, from all of us thank you. A huge thank you too to our regular attendees. You are the ones who keep tournaments running by constantly attending events and supporting the scenes. We appreciate those who bring consoles to use and all those who have participated in commentary or stream running this year! We also want to say a huge shout out to all the players who have taken time out to teach someone else something more about any game, this really is what keeps us all getting better!

North Tas Power Rankings - Season 5

“It’s been a weird season by Jai2go knocks it out of the park again with this amazing graphic”
It’s that time again, 2020 has been a bit weird with how tournaments have been played out and so here we are. Without further ado, here is Season 5’s Power Rankings:
1. JP | Cohen
Cohen has put out a dominant performance at Roadside Rumble this season. His immaculate record over nearly everyone in the scene along with consistent top 3 placings in every tournament he attended makes him stand out as the number 1 this season. Showcasing his incredibly polished Mario play Cohen has proven the top spot is his.
2. JP | Jai2go
Attending every tournament this season, Jai2go has made his stand at Roadside Rumble. His consistency in terms of attendance and placings is only made more impressive as he has tried quite a few secondaries over the course of the season but still manages to pull wins out when he needs them. His Wii Fit Trainer has proven to still be his rock and has helped him secure his spot among the top rankings this season.
3. Trucks
Trucks has been a consistent dominant force in the North Tas Smash scene since it's inception and this season is no different. While he may have dropped down the rankings a bit from his usual #1 spot that should not cause him to be underestimated. Trucks has brought a wide variety of characters to tournaments this season and has dominated with all of them. Particularly notable are his Shoto (Ken, Ryu, Terry) characters, his Yoshi and his Samus. His dominant set record and fantastic regular placings have helped him maintain a top spot in the PR this season.
4. JP | Gerald
Gerald came flying out the gate hot this season with a slew of new characters to try, something we have not known from him in the past. Usually a character specialist with his Little Mac and later Chrom, Gerald has experimented with a few characters with the Pits and Mr. Game and Watch being his standouts. Gerald stopped entering tournaments half way through the season but has regularly lent his knowledge and expertise on the game to our commentary and would have also risen up the ranks there, if we had a comms PR. His dominant set records and fantastic placings have secured him #4 on the PR even with half a season of absences.
5. JP | LargeMarge
Our #5 has Climb(hazzard)ed up the rankings this season as LargeMarge's consistent Cloud has proven to be a thorn in the side of many players. With a great set record against most of the players below them, and even a couple of wins off some of the top ranked players, LargeMarge shows how sticking to their character has paid off. Consistent placings have also been another boon for them and edged them out over some of the other players in the rankings.
6. JP | Mr. President
Mr President has been an explosive player to watch this season. Often making great use of the RNG mechanics of his characters he is the only player under the top 4 to take a set off of Cohen which is a remarkable feat. Mr President has a great set record on a large portion of the players who attend and does it all with a winning smile.
7. JP | Wingy
Busting down the walls to this seasons Power Rankings, Wingy has ditched her tried and true Ganondorf and taken up a new mantle with Bowser and the boss of the Koopas has rewarded his minion well. Wingy has levelled up as the season has gone on and has made quite a few higher placings at tournaments as well as making sure she doesn't get upset by players she has undefeated records on. The future is looking bright for her as she aims to take her spot higher on the PR next season!
8. DT | MaxKiNG
Our resident TO rounds out the PR this season and has made a stray from his usual Palutena play towards... Donkey Kong? We're not quite sure why he continues to stick with what appeared to be a joke pick at first but it has kept him consistently placing for the latter half of the season so we can't really question it. Scoring a couple of big wins earlier in the season, MaxKiNG has proven to be able to make the occasional upset on the right day. His consistent rankings help him to bag the #8 spot this season.
This season also featured a few hidden bosses who had some noticeable appearances this season…
Zeph
An older member of the scene, Zeph has brought a much needed challenge to players later in the season and just falls short of qualifying for the PR. A 2nd and 3rd place at the two tournaments he did attend prove that his is a force to be reckoned with and a scary sight for anyone to come up against in bracket.
Kharn
Nobody knows when Kharn will rock up to play some Smash, not even him most of the time. But when he does enter (or get entered on accident) he has shown he still knows his way around a GameCube controller and can hang with some of the best in the scene.
Wambysock
Attending only one tournament this season but boasting a 1st place win over the top 3 PR players, Wambysock has shown that while he may not be attending he is still an amazing player cable of taking it to the best Launceston has to offer. His day 2 Steve definitely played a part in his victory but after a gruelling Grand Finals against Cohen Wambysock proved it isn't just the new character that net him this win.
Thank you to all those who played this season, we are right in to high gear beginning Season 6 to carry us to the end of the year. If you want to get involved follow us on our socials! Thank you again to Jai2go for the graphic follow them here for commissions.
Tekken 7 Season 1 North Tas Power Rankings
by MaxKiNG

Recently the North Tas scene has had a huge rise in popularity in regards to Tekken 7, since returning to events in a post COVID capacity we have seen a steady incline in players and interest. The following is the culmination of many tournaments coming together, we are eager to add Tekken 7 to the line up of power rankings on offer at Down Tilt, so without further introduction here is this seasons top 8 players:
1. Repeater
Repeater has been the main driving force behind the Tekken 7 scene in Launceston. Teaching many players how to play and improve as well as maintaining a dominant hold on the top ranking. To some players Repeater seemed like just another challenge until he started bringing out his deadly Hwoarang and axe kicking players into the losers bracket time and again. Repeater stands as the rightful number 1 this season in terms of head to heads, placings and rankings by his peers.
2. Nic
Upon his arrival at Tuesday Night Fights, Nic may have seemed like a bit of an underdog as he was just understanding how tournaments worked and how the scene would operate. His simple choice of tag, his own name, only furthered that but he quickly established his place among the top players of the Tekken 7 scene. Nic's fierce play with Lars has earned him the 2nd place in this seasons rankings, being the only player able to consistently take sets off of Repeater. Nic has started to bring in new characters and is looking poised to vye for the number 1 spot next season.
3. Oridian
After a slow start to the season, Oridian seemed to almost come from nowhere into dominance with a well rounded Katarina which took many players by surprise. A slew of well placed events and dominant head to heads have earned her the 3rd place on this seasons rankings. While the top 2 seem to be a bit out of her reach at the moment, Oridian is a testament to the phrase "Practice makes perfect" and she will be looking to mark her place on the rankings next season.
4. Ren
The dark horse of the Launceston Tekken 7 scene, Ren has had a season filled with ups and downs. While she has taken it to and even beaten some of the top ranked players, she has also dropped a few sets to players a lot further down the rankings. After multiple sets with different players and expanding her knowledge, Ren has established herself as a serious threat. Her Lucky Chloe has been a go to of late but when it fails she can bring out the trusty Zafina to outwit and unnerve her opponents.
5. JP | Gerald
Upon finding out that Tekken has a boxing character that is actually good, Gerald was all in! His dedication to learning the game has earned him a spot on the rankings. A switch to the Mixbox saw Gerald have a bit of a hiccup while learning to use his new controller, but his practice is starting to pay off as he seems on the upswing to round out the season.
6. DT | MaxKiNG
MaxKiNG has had a few ups and downs this season, dropping sets to a lot of different players but being able to take the top of the rankings to the final round on occasion. His Lucky Chloe has helped him cheese out quite a few sets early on but it has adapted and evolved into a different beast as the weeks have gone on. MaxKiNG has made an impact on the scene in the first season but will need to stay ahead of the curve to keep his spot on the rankings.
7. DT | Chins
While not being present at tournaments since late August, Chins had enough of a good showing to warrant a spot on the rankings. His Claudio play rolled over a lot of players within the first couple of months as they were not prepared for the Rocket Punch! His rather unorthodox play gives players a tough time and we hope to see him back next season!
8. Trucks
A latecomer to the Tekken scene, Trucks attended events eager to learn about something new. We have seen a few different characters come and go from Trucks' arsenal but he has stuck with Akuma and Dragunov of late and proved to be quite proficient on them. His adaptive skills have earned him a quite a few key wins during the season and we hope to see more of Trucks in the following one.
HM: JP | Jai2go
Jai2go had a season of experimentation, trying a few different characters before finally settling on Heihachi. After settling on his choice he has proved that with time and practice he can be a force to be reckoned with. Only narrowly missing out on making PR this season, Jai2go will be looking to make an impact on the next seasons rankings!
Hidden Boss: NZMGOW
Despite only entering one tournament this season, NZMGOW has been present at quite a few events and been helping players learn and practice their game. The one tournament he did enter though, he swept through some of Launceston's best to take the first place with only a single game dropped. We hope that NZMGOW will enter more tournaments next season and really spice up the rankings!
Thank you to those who have supported the rise of Tekken here at Tuesday Night Fights, we look forward to expanding on the game as we move in to Season 2 of the rankings and paid tournaments.
