“It’s been a weird season by Jai2go knocks it out of the park again with this amazing graphic”
It’s that time again, 2020 has been a bit weird with how tournaments have been played out and so here we are. Without further ado, here is Season 5’s Power Rankings:
1. JP | Cohen
Cohen has put out a dominant performance at Roadside Rumble this season. His immaculate record over nearly everyone in the scene along with consistent top 3 placings in every tournament he attended makes him stand out as the number 1 this season. Showcasing his incredibly polished Mario play Cohen has proven the top spot is his.
2. JP | Jai2go
Attending every tournament this season, Jai2go has made his stand at Roadside Rumble. His consistency in terms of attendance and placings is only made more impressive as he has tried quite a few secondaries over the course of the season but still manages to pull wins out when he needs them. His Wii Fit Trainer has proven to still be his rock and has helped him secure his spot among the top rankings this season.
3. Trucks
Trucks has been a consistent dominant force in the North Tas Smash scene since it's inception and this season is no different. While he may have dropped down the rankings a bit from his usual #1 spot that should not cause him to be underestimated. Trucks has brought a wide variety of characters to tournaments this season and has dominated with all of them. Particularly notable are his Shoto (Ken, Ryu, Terry) characters, his Yoshi and his Samus. His dominant set record and fantastic regular placings have helped him maintain a top spot in the PR this season.
4. JP | Gerald
Gerald came flying out the gate hot this season with a slew of new characters to try, something we have not known from him in the past. Usually a character specialist with his Little Mac and later Chrom, Gerald has experimented with a few characters with the Pits and Mr. Game and Watch being his standouts. Gerald stopped entering tournaments half way through the season but has regularly lent his knowledge and expertise on the game to our commentary and would have also risen up the ranks there, if we had a comms PR. His dominant set records and fantastic placings have secured him #4 on the PR even with half a season of absences.
5. JP | LargeMarge
Our #5 has Climb(hazzard)ed up the rankings this season as LargeMarge's consistent Cloud has proven to be a thorn in the side of many players. With a great set record against most of the players below them, and even a couple of wins off some of the top ranked players, LargeMarge shows how sticking to their character has paid off. Consistent placings have also been another boon for them and edged them out over some of the other players in the rankings.
6. JP | Mr. President
Mr President has been an explosive player to watch this season. Often making great use of the RNG mechanics of his characters he is the only player under the top 4 to take a set off of Cohen which is a remarkable feat. Mr President has a great set record on a large portion of the players who attend and does it all with a winning smile.
7. JP | Wingy
Busting down the walls to this seasons Power Rankings, Wingy has ditched her tried and true Ganondorf and taken up a new mantle with Bowser and the boss of the Koopas has rewarded his minion well. Wingy has levelled up as the season has gone on and has made quite a few higher placings at tournaments as well as making sure she doesn't get upset by players she has undefeated records on. The future is looking bright for her as she aims to take her spot higher on the PR next season!
8. DT | MaxKiNG
Our resident TO rounds out the PR this season and has made a stray from his usual Palutena play towards... Donkey Kong? We're not quite sure why he continues to stick with what appeared to be a joke pick at first but it has kept him consistently placing for the latter half of the season so we can't really question it. Scoring a couple of big wins earlier in the season, MaxKiNG has proven to be able to make the occasional upset on the right day. His consistent rankings help him to bag the #8 spot this season.
This season also featured a few hidden bosses who had some noticeable appearances this season…
Zeph
An older member of the scene, Zeph has brought a much needed challenge to players later in the season and just falls short of qualifying for the PR. A 2nd and 3rd place at the two tournaments he did attend prove that his is a force to be reckoned with and a scary sight for anyone to come up against in bracket.
Kharn
Nobody knows when Kharn will rock up to play some Smash, not even him most of the time. But when he does enter (or get entered on accident) he has shown he still knows his way around a GameCube controller and can hang with some of the best in the scene.
Wambysock
Attending only one tournament this season but boasting a 1st place win over the top 3 PR players, Wambysock has shown that while he may not be attending he is still an amazing player cable of taking it to the best Launceston has to offer. His day 2 Steve definitely played a part in his victory but after a gruelling Grand Finals against Cohen Wambysock proved it isn't just the new character that net him this win.
Thank you to all those who played this season, we are right in to high gear beginning Season 6 to carry us to the end of the year. If you want to get involved follow us on our socials! Thank you again to Jai2go for the graphic follow them here for commissions.
