It’s finally here! What an incredible four months it has been for the team here at Down Tilt and the local smash community. December 7th saw the arrival of Smash Ultimate, replacing Smash 4 and reigniting a competitive spark in the scene, today we are here to recognise those who performed outstandingly over the course of the three month season. So here it is, the Launceston Smash Ultimate PR Season 1 results:
Congratulations to all those managed to place this year, below you will find a small write up about each of the top 10 players from this season, again thank you to all those who participated and can’t wait to see you in season 2.
#1 - Trucks - Yoshi/Snake
“Dominance in its purest form is best way to sum up Trucks foray in to Ultimate. After some back and forth at the beginning of the season, Trucks nailed down his lead hard once the Yoshi and Snake came into play. With only a handful of losses to his name, Trucks is starting his Ultimate career off in a commanding way.”
#2 - Chins - Pichu/Yoshi/Inkling
“A strong player returning from Smash 4, Chins makes a bombastic splash into the Ultimate scene with his strong and confident character picks in Inkling, progressing to Pichu and then Yoshi. His great character understanding and flexibility within sets allow him to comfortably get results. While fewer results on the latter end of the season placed somewhat of a damper on his results, it is undeniable how strong of a player Chins is and that he has earned his status within our scene.“
#3 - Cap Supreme - Wii Fit Trainer/Bowser/Marth
“Clean, confident and calm. Cap Supreme has made his name known to those around him. With a solid line up of characters to back his analytical mind, Cap addresses the situation and plays like his life depends on it. A strong player who no doubt could challenge the top position.”
#4 - Wamby - Pac Man/Isabelle/Ness/Ice Climbers
“Wambysock has exploded onto the Launceston Smash Scene in 2019! Despite only a few tournament appearances Wamby has earned his position high on the PR with impressive set wins and placings as well as a large pool of characters to choose from, making him a formidable opponent to run into. “
#5 - Gerald - Wolf/Incineroar/Ganon
“A returning Smash 4 veteran to the scene, Gerald has come in to Ultimate with a drive and hunger for victory. Despite an early character crisis, Gerald has still maintained impressive set wins and placings within the scene that shows why he is a threat. With recent additions to his line up such as the powerhouse Ganon, who knows what Gerald will be capable of.”
#6 - RNGeoff - Ridley/Daisy/Ganon
“Sporting almost as many names as levels of improvement, RNGeoff (Jeff, Jœophphe, etc) has made a jump to the upper standings of the PR carrying his Peach skill from Smash 4 onto Daisy in Ultimate! Coupled with his fantastic luck as well as a dangerous Ridley and Ganon to boot, some might feel a bit Stiched up we Saturnly know that Jeff is ready to make an impact in Ultimate’s future!”
#7 - Snoop Doggy Dogg - Inkling/Fox/Wario
“The artist formerly known as Basty has yet again proven himself a force to be reckoned with in the Launceston Ultimate scene. Boasting strong performances on multiple characters and showcasing the fruits of training mode Snoop Dog has cemented his reputation of being able to stand up to the top ranked players in the scene while rarely being upset himself. “
#8 - Kharn - R.O.B/Chrom
“Despite only appearing in a handful of tournaments over the season, Kharn showed an impressive natural talent for the game with his early game picks of R.O.B and Chrom. Time along with more tournament appearances will truly show how far Kharn can go in Ultimate.”
#9 - MaxKiNG - Palutena
“Dedication suit for a king! MaxKiNG shows just what a strong game plan, good game knowledge and a great grasp of your character can do. Being one of the few (maybe only) solo character players in the scene, MaxKiNG has shown to everyone in the scene that his Palutena is not something to take lightly.”
#10 - LargeMarge - Zero Suit Samus/Cloud
“A latecomer to Smash 4, LargeMarge displayed a willingness and eagerness to learn and improve. This enthusiastic attitude has resulted in him becoming a strong player within the scene, capable of going toe-to-toe with the best players in the region. His diverse roster of Dark Samus, Cloud and Zero Suit Samus allow him to mix it up in many situations and keep the heat on his opponent.”
And there we have it!
